Q:  I installed Brain Games and my PC froze.  I couldn't exit from the game and I tried pressing the
Ctrl-Alt-desktop was different.  For example fonts and images were larger.

I have a Dell Inspiron B130 laptop which is 1-1/2 yrs. old with 1.5gb RAM and Windows XP. I tried to
reset all the settings that I'm aware of to change the display, fonts, image size, etc. but nothing
worked.   I also tried setting IE7.0 to smallest fonts but the screens were still too big to fit on my
display without scrolling sideways, etc.

I then uninstalled both software games and rebooted the system but that didn’t work either.

Later I tried to read an Adobe Acrobat file and received a message that I need to install Acrobat even
though it is installed.  I downloaded a new version but I’m wondering why my PC didn’t recognize the
existing one.

Finally, when I used Ctrl-Alt-Del to see the performance of my computer, a message came up and
said “Task Manager has been disabled by Administrator.”

I'm the Administrator and I didn't disable this so I assumed that your software had something to do
with this. I finally did a System Restore back to the day prior to installing your software and everything
was back to normal.

What could be causing these issues?

A:   There seems to be many different things going on, so let’s go through the causes of the problems:

“When I got back into my computer, my  desktop was different.  For example fonts and images were
larger.”

This could be related to two things - your BIOS controls or your graphics/video card.   We noticed that
there is a BIOS update for your particular PC.  BIOS controls the keyboard, display screen, disk drives,
serial communications, and a number of miscellaneous functions.

Because there is a recent update (April 2007) for your PC, we recommend your do that first.  You do
that here on Dell's website:

c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R140502&SystemID=INSPIRON1300/B130&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en
&deviceid=10101&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=9&catid=1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=187512

Then we recommend that you update your video card drivers.  A new one was posted in June 2006 and
you can download it here from Dell's website:

“Later I tried to read an Adobe Acrobat file and received a message that I need to install Acrobat…”

Our software has nothing to do with Adobe Acrobat, so that we can't help you with, but I do urge you to
run a virus scan on your PC and look for potential bugs that may have gotten to your system.

“Task Manager has been disabled by Administrator.”
As for the Task Manager item, that is actually a concern.   There are spyware programs and viruses
that disable task manager so you can't end the tasks. Spyware can try to take control of your PC.  It's
a little work, but I would suggest you try to take care of that.  Here is a link to a website that details
that type of problem.
